Having shipped a WiMAX handset to Russia-based WiMAX operator Yota, HTC is reportedly to begin shipping another WiMAX-enabled smartphone to US-based Sprint Nextel in the first half of 2010, according to industry sources. In addition, HTC will also offer a WiMAX handset to Taiwan-based WiMAX operator Global Mobile in this summer. A number of web sites have indicated that the WiMAX handset to be shipped to Sprint will be the HTC Supersonic (codenamed A9292), which will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, come with a 4.3-inch AMOLED display and run on Android 2.1 OS (operating system). HTC's current tie-ups with carriers in the WiMAX technology may allow it to continue to cooperate with those carriers should they decide to migrate to LTE later on, the sources indicated.
