Taiwan market: Nationwide WiMAX license unlikely in 2009
Harris Lin, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 18 February 2009]
When the Taiwan government issued six regional WiMAX licenses in the second half of 2007, it hoped the licensees could set up infrastructure and kick off operations in two years. The government was then looking to issue at least one nationwide license in the second half of 2009. However, as five of the regional licensees have lagged behind the government-expected schedule and competition from LTE (long-term evolution) technology is growing, the government is unlikely to issue the nationwide WiMAX license in 2009, according to industry sources.
