Despite growing concerns of global market conditions, Taiwan-based network equipment makers have continued to receive orders for WiMAX CPE (customer premise equipment) products from telecom services operators, especially those in emerging markets, including Russia and India, according to sources at Taiwan's network-equipment industry. In addition, telecom services providers in the Middle East and Southeast Asia have also expressed strong willingness to purchase WiMAX CPE products from Taiwan makers, with actual procurements likely to take place in 2009, the sources noted. While Taiwan-based Gemtek Technology is expecting to see its WiMAX revenues grow over 50% on year in 2009, other Taiwan vendors also expect to enjoy significant growth in their shipments of WiMAX products in the coming year, indicated the sources. The US FCC (Federal Communications Commission) approval of the WiMAX joint venture between Sprint Nextel and Clearwire could also help accelerate the development of the WiMAX industry in North America, which in turn, will provide more WiMAX business opportunities for Taiwan makers, the sources asserted.
