Gemtek Technology has sent its WiMAX devices to a client in North America for testing on the 2.5-2.6GHz frequency band, according to company chairman Howard Chen. Judging from Gemtek's delivery schedule, the company is expected to see its shipments of WiMAX products increase two to three times on year in 2008, Chen estimated. In value terms, WiMAX revenues will account for 10-20% of Gemtek's total revenues this year, Chen added. Market sources in Taiwan have projected that Gemtek is expected to generate revenues of NT$20 billion (US$645 million) in 2008. The sources also estimated that Gemtek shipped about 200,000 WiMAX devices in 2007, and the company's shipments of WiMAX products are running at a pace of 40,000 units a month currently. The Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) has indicated that Gemtek sent its WiMAX samples for applications on the 2.5-2.6GHz band to Motorola for testing.
