Gemtek to launch WiMAX/GSM dual-mode handsets by year-end 2011

Gemtek Technology is developing WiMAX/GSM dual-mode handsets and plans to roll out the devices before the end of 2011, according to company managing director Kevin Yang. The development of the dual-mode handsets is being implemented to meet demand from clients and will target some specified segments, explained Yang, noting that the company will promote WiMAX handsets in cooperation with telecom carriers. In addition to handsets, Gemtek is also developing other mobile Internet devices, and is believed to be the OEM for Clearwire's Clear Spot 4G Apollo hotspots, according to industry sources.
