Packet One Networks (P1), a WiMAX mobile telecom carrier in Malaysia, has signed for technological cooperation with China Mobile, the largest mobile telecom carrier in China, to develop TD-LTE, a China-developed version of LTE, according to industry sources in Taiwan. P1 started WiMAX operation in August 2008 and has more than 400,000 subscribers currently. The cooperation is to set up a TD-LTE network and begin operation in parallel with existing WiMAX operation. P1 thinks that China Mobile has a large domestic market to develop TD-LTE as a standard with a larger ecosystem of industries than that for WiMAX, the sources pointed out.
