The Taiwan government has been boosting establishment of a WiMAX supply chain and applications in Taiwan, but has considered the development potential of LTE and will also promote development if it proves to become the mainstream 4G standard, according to Economic Affairs Minister Shih Yen-shiang. Investments so far made in WiMAX development by Taiwan-based enterprises and the government will not go down a drain if LTE becomes dominant, because the technological barriers to shift from WiMAX to LTE are not substantial, Shih indicated.
