Irene Chen, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 1 June 2010]
Viewing that LTE will not become mature enough for commercial operations until 2015 at the earliest, WiMAX will witness continued good prospects in the global market, according to Intel Architecture Group vice president and WiMAX Program Office general manager, Sriram Viswanathan. However, Intel as a chip developer, is concerned about the market potential of terminal devices based on not only WiMAX but 3G and LTE also, Viswanathan pointed out. For the cooperation that Intel and the Taiwan government signed for in April 2008 to boost the establishment of a WiMAX system integration joint venture, Intel will keep going ahead based on the content of the cooperation and the progress the Taiwan government has made, Viswanathan indicated.
