Network equipment maker Gemtek Technology expects its shipments of WiMAX CPE products to top 1.2 million units in 2010 compared to 600,000 units in 2009, according to company managing director Kevin Yang. Of the projected WiMAX shipments for 2010, 70% will be shipped to India, Southeast Asia and other emerging markets and the remaining to North America, Yang noted. In addition to WiMAX CPE products, shipments of 3G data cards, 3G routers, fixed home gateways, IP STBs, IADs (integrated access devices), femtocells and MIDs (mobile Internet devices) will also contribute significantly to Gemtek's revenues growth in 2010, Yang revealed. Shipments of IP STBs will reach 100,000 units a month in the second quarter of 2010, Yang said, noting that Gemtek shipped a total of 600,000 IP STBs in 2009. For 2010, Gemtek's shipments of built-in WLAN modules will grow 20% to 25 million units and shipments of integrated WLAN/WiMAX modules will total two million units, Yang added, citing internal estimates. Gemtek also looks to an improvement of its gross margin in 2010 due to increasing shipments of carrier-grade and integrated devices, Yang stated.
