Market demand in the second quarter has been hot causing price falls to seize, said Chihheng Liang, analyst of Digitimes and author of new report, PV 2012-Expectations for the global solar market. The price drops in China have been easing. Many firms in the Greater China region have been seeing clear order visibility. Nevertheless, the price gap between China and Taiwan has been widening in April, and hence Taiwan-based firms may lower quotes during price negotiations in May, added Liang. Polysilicon spot price continues to hold at US$22.5/kg while the price of 156 mono solar wafers in China has been around US$1.44/unit. For Taiwan-based firms, the price of 156 mono solar wafers has been around US$1.50/unit. Solar module firms in China have been seeing clear order visibility for first-half 2012 due to boisterous demand, said Liang. | Weekly price of solar products in Greater China, April 23-27 | | Item | Type | Unit | Average | Change | | Polysilicon | Chunk | US$/kg | 22.5 | No Change | | Wafer | 125 mono | US$/unit | 0.89 | -0.01 | | 156 mono | US$/unit | 1.44 | No Change | | 156 multi | US$/unit | 1.08 | -0.01 | | Cell | 125 mono | US$/watt | 0.51 | No Change | | 156 mono | US$/watt | 0.53 | No Change | | 156 multi | US$/watt | 0.46 | No Change | | Module | | EUR/watt | 0.59 | No Change | Source: Digitimes Research, April 2012
